How much does an AI receptionist cost in Australia?

The short answer

AI receptionists in Australia are usually priced as a monthly plan that includes a set number of call minutes, with extra minutes charged on top. Nimble's plans are Starter at A$149, Pro at A$349, Scale at A$799 a month, in Australian dollars with no GST added, each with a 14-day free trial. The right plan depends mostly on how many minutes of calls you get each month.

How AI receptionist pricing works

  • A monthly price that includes a number of call minutes and text messages
  • A per-minute rate for calls beyond your included minutes
  • Higher plans adding more phone lines, team members and features
  • Often a discount for paying yearly

Paying yearly costs 10 months' worth, so two months are free. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial that includes up to 60 call minutes and 20 texts.

Working out which plan you need

  1. 1

    Count your calls

Check a normal week of calls, including the ones you missed, and multiply by about four.

  2. 2

    Estimate minutes

Most receptionist calls are short. At about 2.5 minutes a call (the estimate Nimble's plans use), 100 calls a month is roughly 250 minutes.

  3. 3

Pick the plan that covers a normal month

For example, 300 minutes on Starter covers about 120 calls; busier teams usually need Pro.

  4. 4

    Set a cap

Nimble lets you set a monthly cap on extra charges, so a busy month can't run up a surprise bill.

How it compares to a human receptionist

A part-time or full-time receptionist costs wages, super and leave, and covers set hours. An AI receptionist costs a fixed monthly plan and answers every call, around the clock, including several at once. Many small businesses use one to cover the calls they currently miss, rather than to replace a person.

To see whether it pays for itself, compare the plan price with the value of the jobs you miss. Our guide to the cost of a missed call shows how to work it out.
